Elizabeth Landry is a brave and compassionate 13-year-old girl in Lafayette, Number One, set in 19th-century New Orleans during a yellow fever epidemic. She’s determined to tell the stories of the poor and forgotten, especially the children buried in Lafayette Cemetery. Through her journal, Elizabeth gives a voice to those overlooked by society, showing courage and a strong sense of justice.

Though she appears sweet and gentle, she’s not afraid to manipulate situations to maintain control and get what she wants.

Juror #7 is a flashy, impatient woman who treats jury duty like a nuisance. She’s more interested in getting to her evening plans than discussing the case. Sarcastic and dismissive, she votes “guilty” out of convenience, not belief. When the majority shifts, she quickly changes her vote just to end the deliberation.

Little Bo Peep is a sweet, kind-hearted shepherdess known for her gentle nature and constant worry over her missing sheep. Often portrayed as innocent and dreamy, she brings warmth and tenderness to the story. Though she may seem timid at first, Bo Peep shows surprising courage and determination when her friends are in trouble or when standing up to villains in Toyland.
