The Nether

I served as the lead SFX makeup artist for the short film The Nether, where I was responsible for developing and applying a custom black blood effect designed to drip down the main talent’s arm. To achieve the desired look, I formulated a mixture using a xanthan gum base combined with black acrylic paint, allowing me to control the thickness and flow of the liquid for camera. A key consideration was ensuring the material would not damage the set or become overly sticky, so I carefully balanced the consistency to create a realistic visual effect while keeping it safe and manageable for both the actor and the environment.
